# Habits are reminders

In Alto Daily a habit is a repeating reminder in a Reminders list. Ticking one here completes it there, on every device.

A habit is a repeating reminder in a Reminders list. Ticking one here completes it there. Delete the app and every day you recorded is still in Reminders.

## Start in three steps

1. Create a list in Apple Reminders, or make one in Alto Daily. It is an ordinary Reminders list, so you will see it in Apple Reminders too, and its colour is set there.
2. Add a repeating reminder to it, like run, read or gym. It shows up in Alto Daily as a habit.
3. Pick the list in Alto Daily. Every repeating reminder in it becomes a habit.

Alto Daily can only see your habits with permission to read Reminders. Nothing else is asked for.

## Today

The app opens on Today: what you still owe today, then what is already done. Tap a habit to tick it. The tick is the reminder being completed in Apple Reminders, so Reminders, Siri and your other devices see it too.

## Habits and Week

**Habits** lists every habit with its last seven days beside it, and whether you are on track for the goal you set. **Week** is every habit and each of the last seven days in one grid. A day is a control: tap it and it is done.

Open a habit and its year is there, week by week, with its streak: how many days it has been kept in a row.

## Lists

Any Reminders list works. Star the lists that are habits: starred lists show in the menu on the title, and on the Mac in the menu bar. The rest fold away. Change list from the menu on the title.

## Renaming and deleting

Renaming a habit renames the reminder in Apple Reminders and moves its completed days across. Deleting a habit removes it from Apple Reminders too, with its completed days, so Alto Daily says how many before it does.

If a habit is renamed or deleted in Apple Reminders, Alto Daily notices and says so.
